       Building Human Capital
       The  Policy  and  Legislative  Counsel  departments  of  the  Regu-
       latory Authority hosted many learning and development, work
       experience and information sharing opportunities during 2017. An
       intern from Qatar University’s Faculty of Law spent ten weeks in
       the departments learning about the policy and legislative drafting
       functions. The internship programme forms part of a longstanding
       relationship with Qatar University and its undergraduates.
       In 2017, three Qatar University undergraduates benefited from
       internships at the Regulatory Authority, learning about core business
       activities ranging from bank supervision to investment manage-
       ment to insurance supervision.


       Qatar Leadership Centre’s “Rising Leaders”
       visit QFC

       The Regulatory Authority was part of a QFC initiative to present
       the QFC framework to a group of Qataris who were part of the
       2017 “Rising Leaders” programme under the auspices of the Qatar
       Leadership Centre.

       The First Al Masar Secondment

       In 2016, the Regulatory Authority partnered with Pricewaterhouse-
       Coopers (PwC) to help develop new leaders, providing Qatari
       employees at the Regulatory Authority with the opportunity for
       local, regional and international secondment.

       The Regulatory Authority’s first secondee was Maryam Mohammed,
       Associate Director, Policy, who served a six-month secondment to
       PwC in the first half of 2017.  At PwC, Maryam worked on both team
       and individual projects, and met people across the organisation.

       Of her experience, she said, “As a consultant for PwC, I worked with
       public and private sector clients across a range of industries. This
       was my first time to step outside the government sector. I gained
       insight into how private sector businesses manage their deals and
       corporate finance, and was exposed to different ways of manag-
