Partnering on FinTech initiatives Partnering with Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) and the Qatar College of Public Policy
FinTech (financial technology) is creating opportunities
worldwide to improve financial sector systems and
services such as payment, remittance, digital payment,
money management, lending, and other services.
In 2020, the State of Qatar continued its work through
the Qatar National FinTech Task Force. Led by the Qatar
Central Bank (QCB), the task force brings together
Qatar’s three financial regulators, Qatar Development
Bank and potential FinTech stakeholders and market
participants. In that connection, the QCB announced
plans to develop and launch a sandbox banking service
platform to support and promote FinTech. This initiative
is part of the State’s objective to transform Qatar into
a knowledge-based society and enable the country
to emerge as a regional hub for innovative technology
and services. A FinTech Committee was established
by the QCB in August 2020, the Regulatory Authority
along with key Government stakeholders will participate
in the work of the committee to develop a regulatory
sandbox framework and to assess sandbox applications.
The Regulatory Authority continues to support two
FinTech research projects being led by Qatar University.
The two projects: “Building a Resilient, Inclusive
and Competitive Legal and Regulatory Framework In October 2020, the Regulatory Authority and HBKU on behalf of Qatar College of Public Policy entered
for 21st Century Finance in Qatar” and “A Secure into an MoU to collaborate on public policy development and its implementation in areas related to
End-to-End Blockchain-Enabled Solution to Finance financial services and financial services regulation as well as developing initiatives to organise forums
