Chairman’s Statement

I am pleased to present the QFC Regulatory Authority’s Annual
Report for 2019. The Annual Report underscores the Regulatory
Authority’s continued focus on delivering the important
elements that will ensure that the Qatar Financial Centre (QFC)
operates in line with its commitment towards international best
practice and standards, and that the QFC remains positioned
as an important gateway for foreign direct investment.
The central pillar guiding the Regulatory Authority’s approach
and work is a determined focus on delivering the objectives set
forth in the Second Strategic Plan for Financial Sector Regulation,
2017-2022 (SSP) and the commitments it made to the vision
set forth in the SSP. In that regard, I am pleased to note the
substantial progress that the Regulatory Authority has made in
2019 with regard to the developments of its regulatory policies,
the scope and quality of its supervision, its work on AML/CFT
issues and the resolute manner in which it has addressed
non-compliance by firms through enforcement actions, which is
essential to maintaining the credibility, reputation and integrity
of the Qatar Finance Centre in the international community.
